The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is one of the lead agencies for the social sector. We help the Government to set priorities across the sector, co-ordinate the actions of other social sector agencies and track changes in the social wellbeing of New Zealanders.

About Community, Partnerships and Programmes

Community, Partnerships and Programmes (CPP) is responsible for strategic partnerships; community, employment and population based programmes; industry partnerships; and the service management of contracted services including family and sexual violence. This group is about connecting and collaborating to build effective partnerships that achieve better outcomes for those individuals, whānau and communities who most need our support.


About the Project Manager Role

The Project Manager within the Safe Strong Families and Communities group is responsible for leading and managing key CPP projects. The role holder will initiate and deliver a range of projects that have been allocated to the Project Delivery group based on CPP, Service Delivery (and MSD) priorities. The Project Manager may be responsible for managing multiple projects in parallel.

About your Skills and Experience

To be successful in either role, you will need:

  • Extensive experience in a project/change management role, ideally within the public service arena
  • Proven experience in managing a range of projects, with social/community sector experience an advantage
  • Ability to plan, monitor and control projects, including risk management
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams made up of internal and external resources
  • Proven decision-making experience and leadership demonstrated in co-ordinating and integrating projects.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing
  • Ability to successfully implement change within Service Delivery to realise the identified benefits
  • Innovative problem solving capability
  • Travelling will be required in this role
