We are looking for a special couple who want to make a difference in young people's lives. Living in one of our Family Homes in Auckland, as a Family Home Parent, you will provide care for Tamariki and Rangatahi who do not have whanau they can currently live with.

What do family home parents do?

As a live-in family home parent, your core role will be to provide a safe environment for up to six young people at a time who need stability, positive direction and guidance. You will work alongside our social workers to set simple rules that are consistent with supportive and respectful care and your guidance and support will help the young people in your care get balance in their lives.  You will be financially supported including accommodation and utilities so the essentials of running a supportive and welcoming home will be covered for you.

What skills and experience do you need?

There is no qualification that says you would be a great live-in parent. Most importantly however, you will need to have a caring nature, have a dose of resilience and a desire to make a positive life-changing difference to a Tamariki and Rangatahi.  As this is a live-in carer role, you must also be able to provide 24/7 care to the young people in the home.

    You will also have:

  • Experience working with or caring for children and young people
  • The ability to stay calm through challenging situations
  • Compassion and common sense
  • Commitment and be resourceful
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to pass background checking, including police and medical check

    What support is provided?

Whilst there is no direct salary for this role, we do offer a generous financial support package to ensure children in the home are well cared for. This also includes an allowance for each child in your care that would cover the cost of their food, clothing and other essentials.  You will also receive on-going specialist training and social work support to ensure you are providing the upmost of care for the children and also for your overall wellbeing.
