Chief Media Advisor, (Permenant) - Wellington or Auckland

  • Can you lead a team of media specialists to share important stories well?
  • Do you know New Zealand media inside-out, and have an instinctive nose for news?
  • Are you aware how stories can convey more than just information, but can change our world?

About us:

Oranga Tamariki is a new Ministry dedicated to supporting any child in New Zealand whose wellbeing is at significant risk of harm now, or in the future. We also work with young people who may have offended, or are likely to offend. We believe in the right environment, with the right people surrounding and nurturing them, any child can, and should flourish.

About the role:

We're building a dynamic communications and engagement team to lead the work we need to do to activate the hearts and minds of New Zealanders in order to change lives.  Our approach to media is proactive, strategic and relationship based. You will be leading a team of five media specialists, who focus on relationship building, anticipating trends and responding to risk in a measured and strategic way.  The role can be based in Wellington or Auckland.

Skills and experience:

You will be an expert in your field, who journalists and social media thought leaders come to, for open and direct, accurate information. You will be a skilled strategist who understands the value in being open and direct with communities, and can generate and direct proactive media across a variety of platforms, which informs and engages. Of course, you will easily anticipate and respond to change. You'll be kind, understand what it means to be child-centred, and have vast experience leading a busy, proactive communications team.

We offer:

A collaborative, fun-loving team environment; opportunities for professional and personal development; flexible working options.

If you want to be part of changing the way New Zealand supports our children and young people, apply now.
