Advisor/Senior Advisor EPMO (2 positions) – National Office

Do you want to work in an environment where your intuition, energy and client focus will be recognised and valued?  We're looking for an energetic, client focused Advisor and Senior Advisor to join our Enterprise Portfolio Management Office (EPMO) team. 

About MSD

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is the lead agency for the social sector.  MSD provides policy advice, and delivers social services and assistance to young people, working age people, older people, and families, whānau and communities.  We work directly with New Zealanders of all ages to improve their social wellbeing.

About our Team

The EPMO provides P3M3 leadership to senior managers, SROs/Sponsors and practitioners across the Ministry.  We have quickly established a good reputation within the Ministry for providing practical, pragmatic and on-point advice and guidance that contributes to the success of our project portfolio.

About the Role

As an Advisor, you will be:

  • advising portfolio investment and ROI decision making
  • identifying enterprise risks, issues and opportunities to ensure the success of the project portfolio
  • proactively engaging across business groups and significant programmes, providing advice and guidance
  • contributing to the promotion of programme and project management methods and standards.

As a Senior Advisor, you will also be responsible for:

  • providing strategic analysis, reporting and overview of the Ministry's portfolio of projects and programmes and facilitate the development and on-going management of an optimised portfolio
  • providing lead support and monitoring for large programmes or projects within the ministry
  • providing strategic analysis, reporting and overview of the Ministry's portfolio of projects and programmes.


Skills and Experience

To be successful in either role, you will need:

  • demonstrated experience working in a (e)PMO or large, complex programme and a solid understanding of project and programme lifecycles
  • demonstrated ability to assess projects and programmes for ability to deliver against defined business cases and plans, including the provision of formal analysis
  • experience with analytical or other similar work that requires the distillation of data into information
  • strong influencing and relationship management skills and be able to quickly establish credibility and trust
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills, with good attention to detail.
