Regional Labour Market Manager (Permanent Full-Time)

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is the lead agency for the social sector. We help the Government set priorities across the sector, co-ordinate the actions of other social sector agencies and track changes in the social wellbeing of New Zealanders. Our work, together with our social sector partners, is essential to achieving a sustainable and prosperous future, where all New Zealanders are able to take responsibility for them, be successful in their lives and participate in their communities.  

Reporting to the Regional Commissioner Taranaki, Whanganui & King Country, the Regional Labour Market Manager is primarily responsible for identifying and facilitating the development and creation of employment opportunities for Region. This involves working with a wide range of employers, industry sectors, community groups, government agencies and Iwi to identify and develop labour market initiatives that contribute to employment outcomes. 

A key aspect of the role is to support the Regional Commissioner in the coordination of government investments and partnerships in labour market development, to ensure opportunities are focused on meeting the needs of job seekers.

You will proactively build and manage relationships with industry partnerships, providers and economic agencies and others that foster sustainable employment outcomes within the region. The ability to gather and analyse labour market intelligence will help you shape agreements and make informed decisions based on evidence and trends. 

This role will have a strong link with Service Delivery Industry Partnerships team in regard to account management activities, national employment initiatives, labour market reporting and development of national strategies.

The required attributes for this role are:

  • A track record of solid leadership and success
  • Understanding of labour market issues facing Taranaki, Whanganui and King Country, including the impact these issues have on Iwi, Māori, Pacifika, migrants and others in the local labour market
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Sound business acumen, with the ability to make data driven decisions
  • Full clean driver's licence
  • Qualification in business or other relevant qualification is highly desirable.
