Evidential Specialist Interviewer, Full time, Permanent, Upper Hutt

Are you looking for a new challenge and want to work at a strategic level in collaboration with one of our key stakeholders?

At Oranga Tamariki-Ministry for Children we are passionate about caring for children and supporting families. Our goal is to establish a multiagency approach to protecting and caring for New Zealand's most vulnerable children and young people.

We are currently seeking a full time Evidential Specialist Interviewer managed by the Upper Hutt site, but based with the Police Child Protection at Team Koru House in Petone.

This is a specialist position where your primary responsibility is to forensically interview children and young people who have alleged sexual and/or physical abuse. You will use your social work skills to build rapport with children, enabling them to disclose their experiences of possible abuse with minimum trauma. You will be responsible for writing reports and attending court when required as a witness regarding the conduct of evidential interviews.

You will also promote the services provided at Koru House with the five sites in Greater Wellington. This will include providing training at sites on Child Focused Interviewing and providing specialist guidance and advise when required.

We are looking for experienced dynamic candidates who are committed to improving the lives of children and young persons, and who seek a challenging yet rewarding working environment.

If you have strong leadership qualities, a high standard of social work practice, credibility within the social work sectors and are able to build effective working relationships with others - this may be an opportunity for you.

The successful candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • Be a registered and qualified social worker
  • Have experience in care and protection work
  • Have had recent training and experience in exploratory and evidential interviewing and monitoring or be available to attend the training in Wellington/Porirua in June/July (dates to be confirmed).
