Job Description

The Treasury is the New Zealand Government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to raise living standards for all New Zealanders. We have several opportunities available for Analysts and Senior Analysts to join across a number of teams. The teams include but not limited to: Natural Resources; Fiscal & State Sector Management; Economic Strategy & Productivity; and Business Growth and Innovation.  For further information about these teams please see the attached supporting document. Secondments from other government agencies and also part-time hours would be considered.

These roles would suit those with expertise in economics, systems thinking, public policy or public law and experience in public policy processes. However, we are also interested in candidates from a broad range of backgrounds. If you have been successful working in critical and complex policy areas, and you understand how to use your communication, influencing and analytical skills to get traction on complex policy problems, then we would like to hear from you.

Our positions provide you with an opportunity to:

  • Be responsible for The Treasury's advice on key policy issues that affect living standards for all New Zealanders, drafting advice and Cabinet Papers
  • Provide oral briefings to the Minister of Finance and regularly engage with senior officials
  • Enhance your relationship management and engagement skills by working closely with other government agencies, a range of external stakeholders and across other teams at the Treasury
  • Hone your intellectual leadership and analytical skills, The Treasury provides significant scope to bring new ideas and analysis into policy discussions, with support available from senior staff

 

About You:

  • A solid analytical ability with a talent for drawing together diverse perspectives, including in areas where there may be a high level of ambiguity and complexity, to provide practical advice.
  • A demonstrated ability to convey complex information to a diverse audiences including Ministers.
  • Excellent relationship management and engagement skills with the proven ability to develop and manage professional relationships to support the development and delivery of policy solutions and advice.
  • Demonstrated ability to achieving results by working in collaboration with others in a team environment

 

For appointment at the senior level, candidates will already have a significant breadth and depth of at least 5 years' analytical experience.
