Ministry for Children, Oranga Tamariki

Qualified/Registered Social Workers (Court Report Writer, Section 132) – Auckland Regional Office

Full Time, Permanent (Part Time 20+ hours per week, may also be considered)


  • Promote the protection and wellbeing of children and young people
  • Specialised role, focusing on court and report writing


Here at Oranga Tamariki we are committed to putting children and young people at the heart of everything we do and say. We have opportunities for experienced practitioners to join our Regional Section 132 Report Writing Team. This position reports to a Supervisor and there is flexibility to be based at a Site or Regional Office in Ellerslie.


Using the latest strengths based practice tools and assessment frameworks; you will work hard to get quality outcomes for tamariki and rangatahi.


A big part of your day will be spent gathering and collating information to write comprehensive reports that are of a level suitable to be presented to a professional audience including a Judge. This will include interviewing and talking to tamariki, parents, whanau and other relevant professionals. You must have experience and expertise in writing clear, concise reports and be able to evidence skill in this area.

To be successful in this role you need the following attributes:

  • able to hear children and young people's voices and include their perspectives
  • always focuses on the needs of children and young people first
  • hold a recognised social work qualification or full registration with the NZ Social Work Registration Board
  • excellent relationship management skills
  • strong communication skills – you can write court reports that are appropriate clear, concise and easy to understand
  • actively build trust, credibility and rapport with children and young people
  • high levels of cultural awareness and understanding
  • full clean valid driver's licence.
