Job Description

Are you:

  • an early-career tax specialist, or
  • an experienced policy analyst with an economics or tax background?

Would you like to apply your skills in a new environment at the heart of government?

The Treasury is the New Zealand Government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to raise living standards for all New Zealanders.

The Tax Strategy team at the Treasury provides tax policy advice to the Minister of Finance.  Working together with Inland Revenue, we also deliver the Government's Tax Policy Work Programme, for which the Ministers of Finance and Revenue have joint responsibility.

About the roles

We have two exciting opportunities for a talented Analyst and Senior Analyst to join our team. In both roles, you will advise Ministers on potential tax policy changes and help deliver the Tax Policy Work Programme. You will work closely with Ministers and senior officials on a wide range of challenging issues, engaging with teams across the Treasury and with Inland Revenue.

About you

Analyst:

  • You love tax! We are seeking an Analyst with two or more years' experience in tax. You will bring an ability to apply your tax knowledge in a policy environment and a desire to develop your policy skills. You will have strong communication, analytical and influencing skills, and an ability to work with stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives.

Senior Analyst:

  • We are seeking a Senior Analyst with policy experience and a background in economics or tax. You will bring an ability to provide thought leadership on tax policy issues and related broader economic considerations. You will have strong communication, analytical and strategic thinking skills, and excellent influencing and relationship management skills.

In return we can offer:

  • Challenging and exciting work in a great organisation
  • Excellent mentoring support within a high-performing team
  • The opportunity to bring new ideas and analysis into policy discussions
  • A collaborative work environment where you will interact with a range of people and external stakeholders
