We have opportunities in our Joint Border Analytics Centre for a future-focussed and high-performing business analyst.


The Joint Border Analytics team is a diverse team that combines technology and expertise across three border agencies - the Ministry for Primary Industries, Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (Immigration NZ) and New Zealand Customs Service.


This new initiative applies innovative approaches and analytical techniques to deliver more accurate risk assessment at the border and smarter targeting across all people, goods and crafts. Team members source, integrate and interpret a wide range of information and data to make assessments and recommendations and inform organisational decision making. Joint Border Analytics also supports and benefits from border sector assurance programmes.


Altogether, this means that the border sector will be able to manage more effectively the increasing volumes at the border and the changing profile of risk within the resources available to us.


As a business analyst, you will have a degree in a relevant field, a passion for data and innovation, the ability to listen and to learn quickly, strong science communication skills and a commitment to customer focus.


You will be armed with a personable and inquisitive nature, your peers will value your ability to resolve sticky problems while key stakeholders will see you as a trusted adviser and someone who can add real value to their work. You will display a range of technical leadership skills including the willingness to share expertise and knowledge, mentor and guide team members and partner with international counterparts.


The successful applicant to this position will be required to undergo a full reference and security check as well as drug testing. Applicants should:

    • be NZ Citizens or full Permanent Residents


    • have 5 years of checkable history in countries where meaningful and reliable checks can be undertaken


    • be able to supply Police Certificates from countries in which they have lived overseas for 6 months or longer
