Job Description

Senior Advisor, Safe, Strong Families and Communities – National Office

Fixed Term/Secondment – 12 months

We are seeking a Senior Advisor to join our Safe, Strong Families and Communities team.

About the Group

The Community, Partnerships and Programmes business unit is part of the Ministry of Social Development (MSD).  The purpose of MSD is to help New Zealanders to help themselves to be safe, strong and independent.

The current focus of the Safe, Strong Families and Communities team involves MSD's response to Sexual Violence, Family Violence and Building Financial Capability across New Zealand.

In our work, we make a real and positive difference for communities, through the services we invest in and the support we give.

About the Role

In this role, you will be responsible for developing, improving and implementing a range of social services for New Zealanders.  The core component of this role is working within the Sexual Violence work programme supporting a project to develop and implement improved arrangements for national sexual violence sector support.

This role will require you, as part of the project team, to connect across government agencies, NGOs and the sexual violence sector to ensure the needs of the sector are reflected in the service design for improved arrangements, and to lead a process to implement the appropriate functions.

In addition to playing a key role in this project, you will also be able to use your skills across the sexual violence work programme as a whole, being called upon to:

  • provide intellectual subject matter expertise and leadership in development of services for vulnerable adults and their families and whānau
  • provide high quality analysis, advice and reports for key internal and external stakeholders
  • advise senior management and provide high-level support
  • promote continuous improvement of services and processes.

You will also be expected to lead and contribute to work on both internal and cross government priorities.

Skills and Experience

We are seeking positive and motivated individuals, with relevant prior experience in community and social services.  Experience in the development, implementation and delivery of social services or programmes is desirable, as well as showing resilience when working with sensitive issues.

You will need excellent relationship management skills and be able to demonstrate how you have contributed to making your working environments great places to work.  You will also be able to demonstrate your ability to develop practical solutions for complex problems with a focus on getting the job done!

A significant part of your role will be building relationships with key government stakeholders, internal ministry staff and the NGO sector.  This means you are an effective communicator and excellent relationship manager with a collaborative work ethic and values that align to MSD's priorities.

If this sounds like you, and you're ready to take on the next set of challenges in your career, then we want to hear from you!
