Job Description

  • Are you skilled at defining problems and business needs?
  • Do you enjoy variety in your work?
  • Do you want a permanent role, Wellington based?

About the Ministry of Social Development (MSD)

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is all about helping to build successful individuals, and in turn building strong, healthy families and communities. It's a big job - we're tackling some of the big issues in society, like family violence.

This is not work we do alone.  We work closely with other government agencies, non-government organisations, advisory and industry groups, and communities and iwi. Together we aim to make a positive and lasting difference in the lives of New Zealanders.

We serve over a million people, working out of more than 250 centres around the country.  It is likely that every New Zealander will come into contact with the Ministry at some point in their life.

About the team and the job

We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst to join our Systems and Channel Support (SCS) team within the Service Delivery group of MSD.  SCS is a business-led team providing a day-to-day an interface with MSD IT and performing operational support for business applications and infrastructure (both internally and externally facing), enabling this technology to perform optimally for MSD's clients and staff.

We achieve this through conducting small projects and initiatives, facilitating continuous improvement to our business systems, and managing the daily challenges which arise from a complex technology and business environment.

To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience that highlights the following capabilities:

  • Putting end users front and centre
  • Leading items of work and being responsible for reporting progress against plans

  • Assisting in business process or system design to ensure it matches business requirements

  • Mentoring, coaching and empowering others in analysis skills
  • Experience with a diverse range of technology delivery methodologies (eg agile, waterfall, etc.).
  • Experience with defining and delivering task/case management solutions and defining effective lean workflow is advantageous
