Job Description

Intensive Therapy Caseworker (Multisystemic Therapy)

Oranga Tamarik – Ministry for Children

Henderson, Auckland

Full Time, Permanent

Job reference: 26788

Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children, is the Ministry that supports children and young people in New Zealand. Oranga Tamariki works to advance the wellbeing and positive long-term outcomes of children and young people. In everything we do, the wellbeing and best interests of children are paramount.

We have a permanent opportunity for an Intensive Therapy Caseworker (MST) to join our Reducing Youth Offending team based in Henderson, Auckland.

Multisystemic Therapy (MST) is a home based 20 week treatment programme. The programme strives to change how young people function in their natural setting, home, school and neighbourhood, in ways that promote positive social behaviour while decreasing antisocial behaviour. The ultimate goal is to provide parents/caregivers with skills and resources that they need to independently address the difficulties that arise when raising teenagers. Therapists will visit families 2-3 times per week for the duration of the 20 weeks. A treatment plan is developed with the parents/caregivers focusing on the strengths of the family and the levers for positive change. Referrals are made by Oranga Tamariki social workers. Therapists will usually work with 5-6 families at a time and are supported by a clinical supervisor and a MST consultant.

To be successful in this position, you will need:

  • A qualification in Social work/family therapy or similar.
  • Excellent report writing, verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrated resilience and problem solving.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • A full, current driver's licence.
  • Strong PC and Microsoft Office Suite skills.

We can offer you:

  • A competitive market salary.
  • A cohesive and supportive team environment.
  • The ability to make long lasting relationships within the community.
  • Regular supervision, training and career development opportunities.
  • Personal satisfaction that you are making a positive difference in your everyday work.
