We operate a secure 24/7 facility, working with young men aged 13-17 who are on remand or sentenced via Youth Court. Our ultimate goal is to help every tamaiti we work with to realise their potential. We help tamariki transition into education, training, or employment, and to a safe and stable living arrangement when they leave our care. 

 

Residential Youth Workers can and do make a significant difference in the lives of at-risk tamariki. They provide day-to-day role-modelling, mentoring, support, and coordinated activities for the challenging young men under our care.

 

As a Residential Youth Worker, you will be working directly with our tamariki, so previous experience working with youth will be an advantage as you will be delivering programmes and services as part of a daily programme or an individual care plan.

 

The residence operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week, the Residential Youth Worker positions cover shift work (AM & PM), weekends and public holidays can be part of this roster:

 

  • AM Shift 6.00am to 2.30pm
  • PM Shift 2.00pm to 10.30pm

 

 

Relevant experience working with at-risk children or youth or a qualification in youth work, sport and recreation, education, health, or psychology is preferred but not essential. Applicants with relevant and transferrable life skills are also encouraged to apply. A full orientation and training programme is included.

 

Please note that all successful appointees must be available for a THREE week full-time induction programme starting 18th March covering Monday-Friday 

 

The ideal candidate should:

 

  • Be a strong team player and positive role model.
  • Be flexible and able to work.
  • Meet the Vulnerable Children's Act safety checking and Ministry vetting requirements.
  • Demonstrate initiative and sound judgement, with an ability to ‘think on your feet'.
  • Have experience developing rapport with young people.
  • Be self-directed in work practices.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and good computer literacy.
  • Have a full clean New Zealand drivers' licence.
