Job Description

  • Join the TEC at an exciting time with opportunity to make meaningful change.
  • Have a significant impact in the setup of a new strategy and design directorate.
  • Work directly with the senior leadership team.

The TEC - Te Amorangi Mātauranga Matua is a small Crown agency with a big job to do – ensuring New Zealanders have the skills and the knowledge they need to ensure lifelong ability to build a great life, and to ensure New Zealand thrives.

The TEC internally, fellow government agencies, employers and industry are geared up for change across the careers and tertiary education systems, which is why we're establishing a Strategy & Design Directorate responsible for designing system enhancing strategies, products and services. This new function has the mandate, skills and resources required for transformational change that will have lasting impact on the lives of New Zealanders.

We need a strategic analyst / strategic advisor to support the set up phase of the group, someone who can work with the senior leadership to translate high level strategy and details into meaningful stories. Initially this will be twelve months' fixed-term opportunity.

What will you be doing?

  • Collaborating closely with senior leaders to get to the heart of what they plan to achieve, the data and reasons why and develop the plan to present this for a wide range of audiences.
  • Work across the direct team and wider organisation to source the information required for decision making and shaping the strategy.
  • Co-create and design and build presentations, comms and plan workshops to get the story communicated.

What can you bring?

  • Skills in presenting complex ideas and strategies effectively to a wide range of audiences, specifically using PowerPoint.
  • Ability to thrive both at a high level strategy and deep in the detail.
  • Willingness to work to and meet tight deadlines and, given the stage of the team, some ambiguity and changing requirements.

What will you get in return?

  • A unique role in a new team, you will directly influence setting the strategy that will have a positive impact on New Zealanders.
  • $85k - $100k+, depending on experience.
  • The TEC offers a range of benefits including, flexible working options, a wellness programme and ability to purchase extra leave.

If this sounds of interest, please apply now. Application close on 24th February, but we may progress with interviews sooner. If you have any questions, please contact Nick Walshe at hr@tec.govt.nz.

The TEC is an equal opportunity employer and committed to providing a working environment that embraces and values diversity and inclusion. Your unique talents and experience will help us deliver exceptional services to New Zealand. We look forward to your application.
