CHIEF ADVISOR (12-18 month Fixed Term)

  

  • Lead important work   for  the Crown's response to the Royal Commission in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions (the Inquiry)?
  • Do you want to lead and manage a small specialist team and also identify, shape and lead programmes of work throughout the Ministry in the Crown's response to the Inquiry?

 

In response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions a Crown secretariat has been established to coordinate and align the Crowns engagement across and between agencies (including the Ministry).

 

About the Role

 

The Ministry's Chief Advisor for the Inquiry will provide leadership for the Ministry's input and support for the Inquiry.  The Chief Advisor will be responsible for leading a small team but also bring together the required expertise, knowledge, information and skills from across the Ministry to ensure high quality, timely support for all aspects of the Inquiry relating to the Ministry and also work alongside the Crown Secretariat.

 

Duties

 

  • Identify, shape and lead all programmes of work in response to the Inquiry by working with key areas of the Ministry
  • Provide expert advice and support to the Leadership Team and Minister
  • Ensure all operational implementation is well informed connected with, the rest of the Ministry, cross government and sector
  • Provide the key relationship and representation  point for the Ministry and lead a small team to support the Ministry's response
  • To participate in cross agency initiatives including the crown secretariat

 

Skills and experience

 

To be successful in the role, you will need to be:

 

  • A Senior leader with highly development strategic leadership ability (in a regulatory, governance or policy implement programme area)
  • Effective at stakeholder engagement and developing  networks at a senior level
  • Experience in developing and implementing operational policy and business processes
  • Understand the way an independent Inquiry works and the related issues to this Inquiry
  • Organizational wide and conceptual thinking
  • Manage complex working relationships and ideas
  • Strong influencing skills and political nous
  • Have a demonstrated understanding of tikanga Maori and te reo Maori
