Job Description

The TEC - Te Amorangi Mātauranga Matua is a small Crown agency with a big job to do – ensuring New Zealanders have the skills and the knowledge they need to ensure lifelong success to build a great country. We lead the Government's relationship with the tertiary education sector in New Zealand and provide career services to lift the aspirations and skill bases of all New Zealanders from ages 7 to 74.

We're looking for a Product Owner to join us for the next 18 months on a key project that will lift the aspirations of young New Zealanders. This product has multiple work streams including an online platform, comms and marketing, end-to-end experience design and external collaboration with other government departments and private organisations.


What will you be doing?

  • Own the details and execution of the product's vision, including prioritisation at a delivery level
  • Own and drive the roadmap for the product (i.e. the overarching plan of how to get to that vision)
  • Work closely with the team who are working on the product, ensuring they know what the priorities are, what vision they are working towards, where and how what they are doing fits in with TEC, being available to make decisions when and as needed​, and ensuring the team have what they need to be able to work effectively

What can you bring?

  • Proven experience championing strategic priorities and helping others relate to and align with it.
  • Ideally, proven Product Ownership experience — with a toolbox of modern product discovery practices to draw upon.
  • Understanding of metrics to monitor the success and health of products and services. You will make evidence-based decisions.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills. Proven experience building meaningful, collaborative relationships across all levels of the business.
