Senior Test Engineer (Application Performance Management) – Wellington 

 

The Ministry of Social Development has one of the largest Information Technology Groups in the country. The IT Testing Services Team works in coordination with other IT departments and is primarily responsible for providing independent application and product testing and monitoring.

 

Introduction

 

MSD are looking for a new team member to become a Performance Monitoring Engineer to work with the Performance and APM team. MSD are expanding their workforces and seeking a professional with solid years of experience as a Performance Monitoring Engineer, who is energetic, self-motivated, talented and passionate about statistics, who can optimize, pivot and keep pace with the ever-evolving development roadmaps and applications, eager to further grow his/her engineering capabilities and being part of an awesome team and something bigger.

 

About the role:

 

The required individual will be joining a team who are responsible for and primary representatives of the DynaTrace AppMon APM solution within the Ministry.

 

The recipient will be joining the DynaTrace AppMon team as a subject matter expert (SME), strongly contributing towards the strategy, planning, transitioning, collaboration, administration, maintenance, etc. The recipient's objective is ultimately to mature the current DynaTrace AppMon footprint, seeing the successful decommissioning of the current APM solution and ensuring a successful DynaTrace implementation across the Ministry, by bridging the gap between DynaTrace and Infrastructure and Services (I&S).

 

An overview of your responsibilities:

 

  • Implementation and administration of APM solutions across integrated environments (DynaTrace AppMon preferable)
  • Identify key business transactions in collaboration with the business and IT teams, implementing pro-active alerts on system disruption and outages before it introduces any business impact.
  • Working closely with Application and Infrastructure operations team to provide monitoring platform support on metrics, events and alerting, reporting and dash boarding to improve IT effectiveness.
  • Analyse performance metrics and create dashboards that will be utilized to monitor performance, identify potential issues before they cause a disruption, and measure against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure a reliable and exemplary customer digital experience. Define Service Level Agreements (SLA) with Business, Management and/or providers.
What you will bring to the role:

 

  • Solid understanding and extensive experience with DynaTrace AppMon (Preferable)
  • Act as a subject matter expert in supporting, planning, implementing and integrating IT tools such as DynaTrace, CA Introscope, Splunk, Google Analytics monitoring techniques and technologies
  • Software Architecture knowledge and exposure, with Object-Orientated Programming, Service-Oriented Architecture, Microservices, etc.
  • SDLC knowledge and exposure to Waterfall, Agile and Dev-Ops methodologies and culture experience.
  • Application integration knowledge and exposure to methodologies and technologies such as Web-Services, HTTP, Queues, AJAX, APIs, ESBs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple project deadlines and milestones, excellent time management skills
  • Solid years of experience as a Performance Monitoring Engineer, in the planning, support, implementation and integration of IT monitoring tools and processes such as Dynatrace, CA Introscope, Splunk, etc. (DynaTrace AppMon is key). Including experience with writing code (such as, and not limited to, Java, C, C++, C#, VB.Net; databases like SQL Server/ Oracle. Experience of one or more full release cycles. Basic understanding of modern software development methodologies (Object).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, drive IT projects forward in large organizations, and translate technical features into tangible customer business benefits
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple task assignments including planning, organizing, and providing status on a variety of tasks, assignments, projects, and reports.
  • Experience with Network and Firewall topology
  • Strong Administrative experience with Windows, Unix and Linux Systems
