Cloud Architect

 

Making a change

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is embarking on a technology strategy that supports the organisations goals of Te Pae Tawhiti (In pursuit of wellbeing for our people).

 

Cloud adoption is a key pillar of MSD's technology strategy and this is an extremely exciting time to be a championing voice in MSD's Cloud Business Office (CBO) helping guide the organisation through its Cloud transformation journey.   

 

The Role

As a Senior Cloud Architect, you will be responsible for choosing appropriate cloud server technology, storage technology, network elements, load balancing elements, authentication and authorisation solutions, IaaS or PaaS catalogue items from cloud providers (e.g. AWS, IBM Cloud & Azure) and defining infrastructure solutions for projects based on project needs. 

Responsibilities

  • The role is expected to interpret MSDs cloud right policy and use it to execute on infrastructure solutions for projects.
  • Contribute to the development of end to end solution architecture.
  • Develop cloud architecture and detailed designs including service models.
  • Liaise with MSD's Architecture Council, Forums and Security Risk Assessments 
  • Provide support and guidance to development, test and implementation activities. 
  • Provide peer review and assurance for other designs developed for the project.

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience developing and implementing architectures that are compliant with NZ Government Security Frameworks (e.g. NZISM, PSR).
  • 5+ years' experience of multi domain infrastructure design and architecture.
  • Related technical expertise in networking, database, API technologies, DevOps practices, infrastructure design and configuration.
  • Ability to lead, self-manage, and make decisions.
  • Experience with designing for IaaS solutions an advantage. 
  • Familiarity with Public cloud offerings an advantage.
  • Commercial nous with respect to cloud billing setup will be an advantage 
  • Related technical expertise in two or more of following domains with experience in all:
  • Input and review to high level designs and test plans
  • Development of implementation CI/CD scripts
  • Automation (scripting) of configuration deployments and changes
  • Experience based advice to solution architects on what works with a particular cloud provider
  • Knowledge of Jenkins, BitBucket, AWS CodeDeploy , CodeCommit, CodePipeline and IBM Cloud ToolChains are highly desirable

 

Cloud Infrastructure domain 

  • Network standards, protocols, design and configuration.
  • Network Design on AoG IaaS.
  • Infrastructure (virtual hardware, operating system, IaaS) design and configuration.
  • Database – Oracle / RAC, ADG, SQL Server Always On.
  • Middleware – WLS / WAS /WMB/IIB/API Technologies.
  • Service design on IaaS: Backup, VM and file replication, PAM., AD replication, LDAP replication, patching, monitoring.
  • Security: patching, Monitoring, incident reporting, SEIM, certificate management and identity related product configuration design. 
  • Ability to lead, decision making, mature written and verbal communication skills, resilient and adaptable
