Job Description

The New Zealand Parliamentary Counsel Office is seeking applications from lawyers wishing to become legislative drafters.  See for information about the office and the Legislation (Recognition of Overseas Lawyers) Order 2014 on for information about eligibility to apply.

Applicants must have two to ten years' post-qualification experience in a legal environment.

Working at PCO places you at the heart of Government, designing New Zealand's legislation so that it can be fit for purpose, constitutionally sound, and accessible.

This important work requires you to be skilled in the law, analytically strong, and great at communicating and working with others. You will enjoy problem-solving and be able to analyse complex ideas and policies and communicate them clearly. In developing legislation, you will work closely with government departments, provide advice to select committees of the New Zealand Parliament, and be involved in advising Ministers of the Crown and Cabinet committees. You will need a sound knowledge of the law and keen interest in the role and interpretation of legislation.

Mā te PCO e whakapakari tōna āheitanga ki te whakamahi i te reo Māori ki roto i ngā ture. The PCO is committed to upskilling its capacity to include te reo Māori effectively in legislation.
