About Safe, Strong Families and Communities


The Safe, Strong Families and Communities (SSFC) team sits within the Māori, Communities and Partnerships Group at MSD. The current focus of SSFC involves MSD's response to Family Violence, Sexual Violence, and Building Financial Capability across New Zealand.

About the role


This is a fantastic chance to lead and participate in programmes of work within SSFC, MSD and across Government. In this role you will:


  • undertake analysis and provide advice on complex pieces of work
  • provide leadership to drive and support key areas of work


About you


To be successful in this role you will have proven experience operating at a senior level, which includes:


  • the ability to deliver smart solutions to complex problems and provide pragmatic and effective advice
  • the ability to work under pressure in a fast-changing and ambitious environment experienced in building and communicating across a range of networks in the social sector
  • a sound understanding of the machinery of government with experience in government policy, budget, accountability and appropriation processes
  • strong influencing and relationship management skills and be able to quickly establish credibility and trust
  • an ability to engage with a range of stakeholders, understand their needs, and adapt to changing requirements
  • be a people leader who displays strong interpersonal skills; coaches and mentors other staff to lift our capability; and is visible, approachable and proactive


The Ministry is committed to providing development opportunities for staff. Principal Analysts may be asked to move between the teams/units within Māori, Communities and Partnerships or elsewhere in the Ministry, to help them build a broad range of skills and experience, and as part of the flexible approach to the management of the wider work programme.
