Job Description

General Manager System Performance
  • Exceptional leadership opportunity
  • Critical newly established role at a senior level
  • Driving success through the innovative use of data and reporting

About the Ministry of Social Development

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) plays a key role in the social sector, working directly with New Zealanders of all ages to improve social wellbeing.  MSD provides policy advice and delivers social services and assistance to young people, working age people, older people, and families, whānau and communities.  MSD works directly with New Zealanders of all ages to improve their social wellbeing.

About the Group / Unit

The System Performance team provides analysis, forecasting, actuarial projections and reporting to ensure MSD has an integrated and comprehensive understanding of the performance of the wider welfare system that MSD has stewardship over.

About the Role

This newly created role will be your opportunity to drive a deeper and comprehensive picture of the performance of the wider welfare system. It's not just about ‘what's happening? but also ‘why'? and ‘what action should be taken? ‘To do this you will better integrate functions within your new group and play a wider leadership role across MSD to combine different perspectives into a cohesive whole, which tells a much richer story than could be achieved in isolation.

As well as overseeing the delivery of the day-to-day accountabilities and work programmes, you will ensure the safe and responsible use of data and information. Your role will be critical in the production of high-quality financial and non-financial reporting which will not only provide economic and fiscal updates to the Treasury, but also enable MSD to make better decisions ranging from from strategic, policy and operational levels.

You will continually build the culture of the teams and set the environment where people push themselves and grow.

You will bring your political awareness and knowledge of the Government's direction and policy priorities to this role as well as masterful relationship management and strong powers of influence.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive Strategy & Insights, you will have the chance to play a key part in driving the group strategy and contributing to the collective decision-making for the entire organisation.
