2018-2019 Treasury Summer Intern

By joining The Treasury as a Summer Intern, you are embarking on a journey into the heart of public sector decision making, with meaningful responsibility on relevant issues in a stimulating environment. Working as the government's lead economic, financial and regulatory policy advisor, the Treasury works with public sector agencies to help the government of the day make informed decisions on a wide range of areas.

By joining, you will:

  • Create long lasting relationships with around 20 other Treasury Interns who join the 2018 summer cohort
  • Have a unique insight into the inner workings of the New Zealand public sector
  • Have meaningful, varying and challenging projects that directly influence our work and advice
  • Learn from and connect with some of the country's best policy minds
  • Have access to development opportunities outside your immediate scope of work; building your overall public sector understanding.

We are looking for interns who are conscientious individuals and:

  • Can successfully adapt to an ever changing political and economic environment,
  • Have a desire to continue growing their professional and technical talents,
  • Have a capacity for working with numbers (all our graduate roles work in the detail of the numbers that influence policy advice),
  • Have the ability to relate well with others, and can understand and influence outside perspectives,
  • Clarifies areas of ambiguity and filters irrelevant or distracting information,
  • Thinks critically and analytically about problems and their solutions,
  • Thrives under pressure and can juggle multiple priorities, and
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing for a wide range of audiences.
