The role

NZTEs purpose is simple: to grow companies internationally - bigger, better, faster - for the benefit of New Zealand. As the Trade Commissioner - Riyadh, you will be a senior representative of New Zealand's strategic, political, and commercial interests in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The opportunity

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is the largest market in the GCC in terms of landmass, population, political power, and most importantly economic might. The Kingdom is currently undergoing a massive reform process lead by King Salman who is focused on moving the country away from oil dependency in order to broaden the counties economic base. This offers huge potential for NZ companies in Food, Services, Technology, Medical products, Agriculture and Educational training. Your primary objective will be to assist New Zealand businesses access, develop and secure business opportunities in Saudi Arabia. 

What you will do

You will be part of New Zealand Trade & Enterprise's India, Middle East and Africa regional leadership team and play a key part in implementing our strategic goals. Your stakeholder management and negotiation skills will enable you to develop, maintain, and leverage key strategic relationships in New Zealand government agencies across the region to play an important part in the delivery of the ambitious goals of the NZ Inc. GCC Strategy. You will therefore be responsible for working closely with the Trade Commissioner - Gulf States (based in Dubai) to develop and implement regional initiatives across the six markets in the GCC (including Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman).

The person:

This role requires a resilient individual who comes into the position well aware of the challenges of living and working in Riyadh. This role will stretch and pull on the depth and breadth of your regional business experience and stakeholder management skills. You will need to have demonstrated success in challenging circumstances and difficult environments and proven experience in creating, implementing and leading successful business development strategies (ideally within the Middle East). You will also need to be a natural networker with established leadership, influencing, and diplomatic skills in order to leveraging strategic relationships across a number of groups. In addition to knowledge of local customs and business practices, Arabic language capability or a strong desire to learn the language is desirable.

The detail:

As the Trade Commissioner, the successful candidate will be subject to a number of vetting processes, including NZ national security clearance.
