The New Zealand Police Information and Communications Technology Service Centre are seeking to appoint of a Database Administrator to the Technology Operations group, based at the Royal New Zealand Police College, Porirua.


The Police ICT Service Centre is here to save police officers time, enhance their safety and contribute to making New Zealand a safer community. To prevent crime and crashes, Police needs information delivered to the front line that is reliable and able to be accessed anywhere, anytime. Making this happen is the daily work of our people in the ICT Service Centre. With our operational colleagues and partners we create world leading solutions in mobile, computer aided dispatch, intelligence, networks and security. We are looking for people that have the technical expertise but most importantly share our vision for innovation, partnerships and being part of a positive work environment.


This role is responsible for providing management of the day to day technical and functional direction of database systems, delivering 2nd and 3rd level support to business owners and end users to ensure data integrity, reliability and performance at optimal efficiency. The roles also provide support of Database systems, including implementing new solutions and services, and the pro-active maintenance and enhancement of existing systems.


The role will primarily be supporting Microsoft SQL and then cross skilled to DB2 and Oracle database systems.


It is a dynamic and challenging position, and the successful applicants will have proven experience, able to demonstrate the following: 

  • Knowledge and experience in Microsoft SQL Server
  • Oracle database systems exposure
  • DB2 exposure
  • Knowledge of and experience with performance tuning and operation practices in Microsoft SQL database systems
  • Experience providing 24x7 support in a large organisation.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting databases in a large organisation
