Would you like to support the needs of our Volunteers?

This full time permanent role will lead work and provide advice to ensure that learning methods, policy, practices, and training materials best meet the needs of volunteers. It will also assist in building the capabilities of those who provide learning support for volunteers on brigades.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand is a Crown Entity established on 1 July 2017 under the Fire and Emergency Services Act 2017. The role of our new organisation is to reduce unwanted fires, respond to structural and vegetation fires and other emergencies including motor vehicle crashes, medical emergencies, hazardous substance related incidents, natural disasters and support increased community resilience.

Our new, unified organisation provides a fire and emergency service that delivers for communities, and the firefighters who serve them, now and in the future.

This position continues good progress made in better supporting volunteers in their brigade based learning. This position is a permanent role with a focus on Fire and Emergency volunteer learners. The position is a nationally reporting position based in Region Training (NHQ) and works predominantly with Brigade Training Officers (BTOs), Volunteer Support Officers (VSOs)and training staff nationally.

The ideal applicant will:

  • be experienced in working with volunteers and be able to achieve results which support and make a difference for volunteers.
  • have a proven ability to develop new and innovative solutions for a widely dispersed workforce
  • have skills and experience providing education and training support for distance and online learning
  • demonstrate outstanding communication skills across a wide range of audiences
  • be able to work independently, take initiative and travel extensively
  • be required to travel as part of the role.
