Hansard Editor - one year fixed-term

Be one of a select few - experience Parliament in action every day

  • Provide support to the House of Representatives and its committees
  • Use your editing skills to assist in producing the official record of the House

When you work in Parliament, you don't just watch democracy in action - you're part of it. In the Office of the Clerk, you'll be working directly at its core.

The Office of the Clerk provides advisory services to the House of Representatives, directly assisting the House and its committees with the business of Parliament.

We're looking for two fixed-term Hansard Editors, whose primary duties will be reporting and editing the official record of the House of Representatives.

It goes without saying that you'll have an excellent knowledge of the English language - spelling and grammar in particular. You'll also have a very good eye for detail, be up to date with local and global affairs, and have some knowledge of Te Reo Māori.

On top of your effective interpersonal and teamwork skills, your well-developed organisational skills will contribute to ensuring that Hansard is published within our strict time frames. You will also be able to demonstrate our values, which include impartiality and trustworthiness.

We are accepting applicants interested in working either full-time, or only during Parliament's sitting weeks - approximately 30 weeks of the year. If your preference is to work part-time, you will work Tuesday to Friday on sitting weeks only. If you choose full-time, you will work during Parliament's sitting weeks, and work standard office hours during non-sitting weeks. The sitting calendar can be accessed here. Please note that this role includes evening work up to 11.00pm, and some longer hours during extended sittings and urgency.
