About the Role

We are looking for a Principal Advisor to join our Budget team on a permanent base with strong, quality experience who will lead MSD's budget and investment process. MSD is looking to transform the way it achieves outcomes for New Zealanders and will require significant investment to do this.

The Principal Advisor Budget role provides leadership to support MSD's contribution to, and participation in, the annual external Budget and investment processes. You will provide high-level technical and thought leadership, best practice specialist advice and support to senior leaders and Ministers.

A key focus of the role will be to build organisational capability and ensure this is integrated with organisational strategic planning and performance, workforce and capital planning, and key policy and operational developments.

 

About You

Skills and Experience

We are seeking someone with proven experience operating at a senior advisory level, in addition to an established record of leadership and relationship management. You will demonstrate the ability to deliver smart solutions to complex problems and provide pragmatic and effective advice.

To be successful you will have:

  • a sound understanding of and experience in government policy, external budget, accountability and appropriation processes
  • demonstrated experience in leading external budget processes
  • strong influencing and relationship management skills, and be able to quickly establish credibility and trust
  • the ability to work under pressure in a fast-changing and ambitious environment
  • a working understanding of the machinery of government is essential.
