Programme Director

 

The Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is one of New Zealand's largest government departments, providing services to support individuals, families, and communities. The Opportunity

 

Over the last five years we have been evolving our delivery approach based on agile at scale.

 

The role of Programme Director is a newly established permanent position within the Improvement, Systems and Technology Group here at the Ministry of Social Development.

 

Within this exciting opportunity as the Programme Director, you will coordinate and oversee the end-to-end delivery of multiple complex systems and products using an agile approach for service deliver. Provide oversight and management across a wide range of complex, work streams and delivery of projects.

 

As a Programme Director, you will have the ability to operate across multiple product services, using your stake holder relationships to ensure you keep portfolio owners and stakeholders engaged and informed at all times to successfully support delivery outcomes.

 

The most suitable candidate will have the capabilities to provide leadership and guidance to Agile teams by steering it to success and navigating the complexity of delivering software in large, cross-functional environments. You will work closely with the Group General Manager, the Senior Responsible Owner and the wider Improvement, Systems and Technology group.

 

The key elements and responsibilities within the role are:

 

  • Accountability for the overall planning, coordination, execution, and delivery of value through programmes.
  • Encouraging collaboration between teams.
  • To coach and guide teams by facilitating the appointment of individuals to workstream teams.
  • Ability to identify potential risks, opportunities and issues across multiple disciplines and understand design constraints.
  • To hold the responsibility for the delivery of new products or services from work streams, whilst to the appropriate level of quality expected.
  • Managing stakeholder and third-party relationships through clear communication.
  • To demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the methodology and processes associated with Scaled Agile execution framework.
  • Is confident with reporting the progress of the programme to senior leadership, whilst initiating the lead of extra activities and other management intervention where gaps or issues in the programme may be identified.

 

The illustrated abilities you can bring to the role:

 

  • Experience in negotiating constructive outcomes in complex environments with competing priorities.
  • An excellent eye for detail with the ability to clear written and verbal communication.
  • Proven operation management experience of delivery within a large, complex agile technology environment.
  • Has proven business knowledge of the activities and practices of the organization, suppliers, partners, competitors, and clients. 
  • Proven experience in critical thinking within a large and complex working environment.
  • Ability to develop high quality reporting.
  • Proven experience working at executive level alongside senior leadership.
  • Confident in making decisions that can impact in providing results, meeting deadlines and Budget allocations.
  • Previous experience in planning and designing, monitoring the progress, resolving issues and initiating the appropriate action to resolve any issues.
  • Proven stake holder management.

Salary range: $147,317.00 - $220,975.00
