Job Description

Portfolio/Senior Portfolio Manager

The Treasury is the New Zealand Government's lead economic and financial advisor. Our vision is to raise living standards for all New Zealanders.

The Treasury's New Zealand Debt Management Office (NZDMO), is responsible for managing the core Crown's debt and overall cash flows.  In addition to managing the core Crown's funding programme, NZDMO also manages a portfolio of liquid financial assets, conducts lending on behalf of the core Crown and provides risk management services for Crown clients.

We have an opportunity for a Portfolio Manager or Senior Portfolio (depending on level of experience) with experience in financial and capital markets to join our team.

The role will focus on management of NZDMO's New Zealand dollar and foreign-currency asset and liability portfolios.  This will involve helping to develop strategies for the efficient management and execution of transactions that add-value to, and manage risk for, the portfolios for which they have responsibility.

In this role, you will contribute to managing relationships, the development of portfolio management policy and the provision of financial markets advice within Treasury and across the Crown.

About You:

  • An academic qualification in finance, economics or mathematics - Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification would also be an advantage
  • Three to ten years professional experience in financial markets
  • Advanced quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to develop and maintain professional relationships
  • High standards of professional conduct and integrity, including ethical standards relevant to financial markets

By advising the Government on what matters most, the Treasury offers truly exciting and interesting career opportunities.  We pride ourselves on the quality of our staff and understand the importance of fostering a working environment where excellence is recognised and where staff are encouraged to develop their own talents and potential.  The Treasury values diversity amongst its employees and encourages a positive work/non-work balance with flexible work arrangements.

Applications close - 24 June. All applications must be made online.
