Job Description

  • Statistical Infrastructure Support
  • Fixed-term until 30th June 2018
  • Christchurch based

The purpose of the role

Statistical Infrastructure is leading the implementation of a new processing platform providing enterprise capabilities which enable and empower Stats NZ business units to unleash the power of their data. Additionally, we also provide business support for some key organisational capabilities to enable our business units to reliably deliver to customers.

As a Technical Analyst, you will enjoy problem solving and turning challenges into opportunities. You will enjoy using your superior organisation and attention to detail skills, working to a high level of performance, with competing priorities, contributing to the success of 2018 Census. Your ability to build strong relationships will allow you to become an integral part of our project team and assist our "Product Owner" to maintain overall quality control and end-to-end customer relations.

What you'll be doing:

  • conduct analysis of business issues and challenges, participate in the development and implementation of solutions
  • develop, implement and support continuous improvement of agreed business process models, documentation and procedures
  • work with customers to formulate and scope new statistical and business processes and act as their advocate throughout the implementation process
  • assist the "Product Owner" in translating customer requirements into stories suitable for developers

Person specifications

We encourage you to apply for this role if you have:

  • ability to review, consult and redesign end to end business processes to be more efficient and effective for stakeholders
  • ability to quickly learn and understand our Statistical Infrastructure capabilities especially ETL software (i.e. Pentaho Data Integration)
  • advanced knowledge of programming design techniques, tools and best practices, especially using ‘R'
  • knowledge of statistical processing methodology would be an advantage but not essential
  • outstanding communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills
