Job Description

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) protects New Zealanders and New Zealand's interests. The Defence Estate enables the successful operation of the New Zealand Defence Force and its support to other government agencies and wider NZ community. The Estate comprises over 81,000 hectares and 4,700 buildings across New Zealand. There is no other New Zealand property portfolio as diverse and complex  Defence Estate and Infrastructure  is delivering significant capital investment to build a  21st century Defence Estate.
 
The Director Programmes, Planning and Compliance, is a key role within the extended Estate and Infrastructure Leadership Team.  You will lead various programme teams and specialists who work across Programme Definition/Development/Delivery, Project Coordination, Asset Management, Health and Safety, Energy Management and Compliance.
 
As Director you will be technically savvy and knowledgeable with the ability to provide advice and expertise across a number of specialist areas.  You will drive high standards and performance by setting a clear direction, empowering and engaging people to ensure they operate consistently with NZDF's culture and expected behaviours.
As part of the Defence Estate Delivery leadership team, you will demonstrate the following skills and attributes: 

  • Significant programme and project management knowledge and experience.
  • Senior leadership and change management experience in large complex organisations.
  • Strong continuous improvement skills to drive initiatives across the team in order to improve overall work flows and provide uniformity.
  • The ability to develop effective working relationships with Estate and Infrastructure leadership supported by clear communications and establishment of appropriate project/working groups.
  • The capability to co-ordinate asset assessment data collection and the subsequent analysis and development of remediation programmes of work.
  • The ability to lead ongoing programme reporting and governance is conducting resulting in optimal programme performance and increased awareness/buy-in from stakeholder groups.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
