Job Description

Research Engineer – Devonport Naval Base

  • Deliver technical solutions and support to military platforms!
  • Flex your technical muscle and stretch yourself!
  • Join a dynamic and innovative organisation!

This is a great opportunity to join a strong engineering team focused on supporting the delivery of capability from the New Zealand Defence Force's air, land and sea vehicles.

This civilian position is at the Defence Technology Agency (DTA) within the Platform Engineering section of the Platform and Protection Systems group. The primary focus of this role is to provide specialist technical services and support to the NZDF aircraft fleet, although this may extend to other platform types as needed.

Typically you will be undertaking technical analysis, liaising with stakeholders, and applying engineering methods and tools to solve real issues that affect our current and future fleets. You will also need to be willing and able to get out into the field to support vehicle trials and other physical testing as the need arises. We want someone who is highly motivated with strong initiative to develop intelligent and innovative solutions.

This role would ideally suit an intermediate level engineer, with a strong foundation in a related field. Within this role you will have the opportunity to be involved in finding solutions to some very interesting technical problems. In addition to this there are lots of opportunities for your own professional development.

You will be joining a team who are passionate about the work they do and the role they play in contributing to NZ and the NZDF. DTA also has a friendly, collaborative and intellectually stimulating professional environment.

Applicants must hold a tertiary level qualification in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering (minimum of honours) and preferably a post graduate qualification. Electrical engineering degrees with relevant experience will also be considered. A sound understanding of electronics and software development would also be an advantage.

A full driver's licence is essential as is the ability to travel domestically and internationally when needed.

NZDF offers a range of benefits to its employees including five weeks annual leave, life insurance, income protection insurance and much more.

Please quote NZDF-1707022 in all correspondence.
