Job Description

Assistant Director Career and Talent Management Development – Wellington
  • New role offering a very unique opportunity
  • Have an impact on the careers of our military people
  • Contribute to the development of Directorate strategies
The New Zealand Defence Force is a dynamic organisation with many parts to its structure; however at its core are our people. While remaining part of a wider Organisational Development Directive this new role fits tightly into our People Capability Strategy. You will be providing professional development support to our military Career Managers.

A key piece of work for you will be implementing a professional development framework for our Career Managers; this will lead you to engage with a seventy strong team across the country.

You will be joining a professional team who operate with high levels of integrity and who are proud of the role they play in the development of others.

While we are seeking a ‘people' person this is also a strong systems/process driven role. For example one part of the role is to develop standardised resources and materials to support our managers through the NZDF Career Management process. You will also be improving the quality and consistency of our management process and developing guidelines and resources based on best practice.  You will need to bring an in-depth knowledge of learning and development with a good knowledge of contemporary career and talent management trends and issues.

This is your area of expertise and you are known as an expert problem solver; typically you think outside the square and generate creative and practical ideas.  You are a trained coach and mentor, and relish in the opportunity to pass on your expertise.

This role really has it all; let's start with the everyday learnings of how a large complex organisation can meet the professional development needs of its employees. We can then add the many opportunities for your own professional development including the NZDF Institute for Leader Development Lead Systems Course.

This really is a rare and very exciting opportunity,  vacancies like this don't come around very often, don't miss out!
The NZDF offers a range of benefits to its employees including five weeks annual leave, life insurance, income protection insurance and much more.

Please quote NZDF-1708005 in all correspondence. To view the Position Description and to Apply Online please use the links on this page. For further information, contact Peter Wood on 021 747 289, quoting NZDF-1708005.

Applications close at 5:00pm on Monday 21 August 2017.

Please note: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ) and be able to obtain and maintain the required level of NZ Government security clearance for the position applied for. The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application
