Job Description

We have an opportunity in the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs) for a future-focussed, high-performing Business and Reporting Analyst, based in the City at Auckland Customhouse.

As the Senior Customs Officer Grade 1 Business & Reporting Analyst within our analytics capability, you will act as an interface between Data Modelers and Scientists, IT professionals, subject matter experts and stakeholders to deliver analytical projects that support targeting of risk, facilitation of trade and travelers.

As part of your role, you will be working in support of the Customs Assurance Programme. This programme is focused around baselining the work streams that Customs deals with; People, Goods and Crafts. This will provide you with the opportunity to contribute towards enabling Customs to be able to more effectively manage the increasing volumes of goods and passengers at the border, and how Customs does its risk assement when considering the changing profile of risk.

This is a role that has inter-agency reach, as it is a Customs role in the recently formed Joint Border Analytics (JBA) team. The JBA team is a diverse team that combines technology and expertise across three border agencies - Customs, Ministry for Primary Industries and Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (Immigration NZ). The role of the JBA is to contribute to more accurate risk assessment at the border and smarter targeting across the work streams.

You will need to be able to work alongside others in a project team to scope analytical work, identify customer requirements and data requirements, communicate insights, develop deployment options and be a champion for analytics across the border sector.

You will be armed with a personable and inquisitive nature, your peers will value your ability to resolve sticky problems while key stakeholders will rely on your guidance and advisory capabilities.

  • Be NZ Citizens or full Permanent Residents and have spent the last 5 years in New Zealand
