The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) provides national leadership to New Zealand's distributed emergency management system. NEMA's primary focus is on the performance and capability of the emergency management system, as a whole, across all hazards and all risks and the 4 Rs of risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery.

As part of working within NEMA, there may be a requirement to respond to emergency activations in the event of a national emergency response. This may involve responding to events outside of normal working hours if an emergency response of national significance occurs.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
As we professionalise the Emergency Management (EM) workforce, you will lead the mahi that recognises and builds Māori workforce capability and development. This will include providing thought leadership and working with Māori on co-design initiatives.
The position sits with the System Capability Unit that is responsible for the design, development and implementation of strategies that build and use exercising to test the capability, capacity and resilience of the emergency management system across Aotearoa. This role must be based in Wellington but is open to fixed-term, secondment or permanent.

- Experience in building and maintaining effective collaborative relationships, especially with iwi and Māori partners.
- Proven ability to design and deliver workforce development
- Ability to apply critical thinking and work strategically and operationally
- Relevant experience in a similar senior level role working in a collaborative, complex, fast changing and high-pressured environment
- Ability to facilitate training sessions
- Willingness to share knowledge and experience of applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Te Ao Māori, Tikanga and Kawa

The salary range for this role is $139,554 to $164,181 per annum including employer Kiwisaver contributions.
