The National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa sits within the Information and Knowledge Services branch, the Department's epicentre of information management, culture and heritage.

The National Library works to remove barriers to knowledge, ensure New Zealanders have the skills to create knowledge, and preserve knowledge for future generations.

An exciting leadership opportunity has arisen in the National Library that will be instrumental in shaping the direction of our Content Services directorate.

The Director Content Services leads the effective delivery of collection services for the National Library, including responsibility for the administration of the legal deposit system and the strategic and operational management of digital and physical repositories.

The role is part of the National Library's senior leadership team, which shares responsibility for implementing Turning Knowledge into Value, the National Library's strategic directions to 2030, working with iwi Māori and other partners and sector stakeholders, across three themes of taonga, knowledge and reading.

We are looking for candidates with:

  • Previous experience at a senior management level in a dynamic library and/or archival environment 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and credibility in the New Zealand library, information and archival sectors 
  • Experience of leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams in a complex and changing environment
