About us

Stats NZ has a vision to unleash the power of data to change lives, to do this we must build and maintain strong relationships with our data suppliers. We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated leader to join our Field Collections team based in central Auckland.

The Field Collections team is responsible for collecting survey information from households and businesses across New Zealand. The information we collect is used by our business to produce meaningful stories about New Zealand to help people make informed decisions.

About this role

The Team Manager, Supplier Contacts is a key people leadership role, reporting to the Senior Manager, Field Collections, and being one of four Team Manager, Supplier Contacts roles. This is a key people leader role responsible for leading our regional teams throughout New Zealand. This is a hands-on, highly engaging role where you can utilise your strong leadership and motivational skills to help your team be the best they can be. Your professional approach will provide invaluable support to your manager, colleagues and team alike. Most of all it will be your positive, flexible, enthusiastic attitude and willingness to participate proactively that will make you a key member of our team. You will likely have five to seven direct reports with approximately 50 front line Survey Interviewers reporting to those direct reports.

As part of the Field Collections leadership team, you will be involved in managing day to day operations for your team and across the Field Collections business unit. In particular you will need to be aware of and work within budgeting constraints. You will need to build strong relationships and networks with other areas, in particular our HR team. You will also be exposed to some project work as well as setting and measuring performance indicators.

Our ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Experience in leading a highly motivated and effective team
  • Experience in communicating at multiple levels within an organisation
  • Have an understanding of challenges when managing remote staff
  • An ability to think outside the square
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and be a competent Excel / Word user
  • A passion for change and see it as an opportunity to improve

As you are managing remote teams the ability to travel and be away overnight is required.

If you think you fit the description then we would love to hear from you.

Applications close 11.59pm Thursday, 22 March 2018.
