We're looking for a Senior Procurement Specialist to join our team within Defence Commercial Services, based in Trentham.

What you will do Here's your opportunity to utilise your procurement and commercial business experience. In the role of Senior Procurement Specialist, you will lead and facilitate NZDF's business units and projects to procure goods and services in accordance with good practice and Government/NZDF policy and direction, enabling business outcomes to be met. A key component of this position involves overseeing high value and complex procurements and ensuring the appropriate implementation of developed sourcing strategies.

What we need Someone with an understanding of procurement practices, together with experience of leading and implementing procurement projects in a high functioning procurement environment. Knowledge of project management and experience in developing procurement documentation is essential, as well as highly developed analytical, communication and numerical skills. An MCIPS or tertiary qualification will be beneficial. 

Who we are Defence Commercial Services (DCS) is a unit within the wider Joint Defence Services (JDS) Portfolio. JDS enables Defence Force operations by synchronising key pan-NZDF enabling functions including Logistics, Communications and Information Systems, Health, Security, Strategic Programmes, Military Policing, Knowledge and Information Management and Commercial Services.  The effective and efficient delivery of these enabling functions is a key contributor to the operational effectiveness of our Defence force.  In this sense, Joint Defence Services are a force behind our Force.  External suppliers and commercial partners are an increasingly critical enabler of the Defence Force's operations.  DCS leads and enables the wider NZDF Commercial Function; including procurement planning, sourcing, contracting, P2P and contract management.  This is achieved by delivering enabling policies, frameworks, training, and systems; and the monitoring of commercial risk and performance across the organisation.  DCS performs centralised commercial and business processing functions for NZDF, and offers a range of value adding services to internal customers - including access to professional expertise and advice.  The DCS vision is to Lead and Enable a World Class Commercial Function for New Zealand Defence.

The remuneration band for this position is $97,179 to $120,045, inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
