Job Description

Newly created role in the Communication and Information Systems (CIS) Branch of the NZDF to lead the delivery of enabling services.    

What you will do Based in Wellington at the NZDF Headquarters, the Director Business Management (DBM) leads the delivery of enabling services to Communication and Information Systems (CIS) Branch.  The DBM leads the enabling service performance and ensures that CIS Branch complies with NZDF and all of government standards, practises and operating procedures.  You will build strong working relationships with other senior leaders of enabling services across NZDF.  

The DBM provides the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and CIS Branch Leadership Team (CLT) with an accurate reflection of CIS Branch performance (benefits, risks, costs) together with advice to ensure continuous improvement in workforce capability and performance.    

What we need An experienced senior people leader and mentor, who has worked as a part of a senior management group and has a strong understanding of the machinery of government.  Your experience in operating in a secure and/or sensitive environment and your understating of either a Defence or Intelligence sector will be beneficial to your application.    

You will be able to showcase your commercial skills and have a demonstrable track record of successful management at a senior level. 

Superior communication, customer and stakeholder relationship management skills are crucial to your success in this role, as will your considerable experience and expertise in strategic thinking and planning, policy analysis and development and risk/assurance management.

The NZDF CIS Branch is unique in that it provides a complex, multi-faceted, communications and information systems environment operating across multiple security layers, providing support to more than 14,000 military and civilian Defence Force personnel, dispersed on seven continents, often in geographically remote or hostile environments. 

Our core purpose is to provide reliable responsive and robust Information Communications Services (ICS) to our Joint Forces; Navy, Army and Airforce on operations, at home and abroad, in military bases, in headquarters, makeshift or permanent, on  planes and helicopters, in fighting vehicles, ships and patrol boats.

The remuneration band for this position is $164,031 to $202,626 inclusive of a 4% employer superannuation contribution.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows:
Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen who has resided continuously in this country for the last 10 years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, UK or the USA; and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZSIS towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at a higher level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
