Job Description

What you will do

You will take responsibility for programmes of work related to environmental management where you will develop and provide technical input to matters related to the ongoing use and transformation of the Defence Estate. 

Typically a day in this role will involve project management, providing advice to NZDF personnel, liaising with external stakeholders, engaging with consultants and developing reports. This is a very busy role in which you will become an integral part of DEI in the Environmental Services team. The team are supportive and are like-minded professionals who are passionate about the work they do. 

What we need

We are seeking a person with extensive experience in environmental, resource manage or planning position within a diverse organisation.

Ideally you will have :

  • Extensive project management knowledge and experience

  • Understanding of New Zealand's environmental legislation (technical), environment management systems and associated environmental matters.

  • Working knowledge of the structure and operation of both local and regional councils (administrative)

Your outstanding communication skills, coupled with your ability to deal with complex issues and apply problem solving techniques, will facilitate your success in this position.

There is a requirement to travel around New Zealand so a clean Class 1 drivers licence is also needed.

This is a fixed term role with an expiry date of 30 June 2020.

Who we are

The Defence Estate & Infrastructure (DEI) Environment Services team provides advice, oversight and planning in relation to NZDF's environmentally responsible management of its property. 

The team is responsible for ensuring that management of the Defence Estate complies with all resource consents, relevant legislation and government policy. 

The current estate is a complex network of approximately 81,000 hectares and 5,000 buildings spread across nine camps and bases, two large land training areas and various regional locations.

Low level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last five years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last five years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level.

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
