Job Description

Bridge Simulator Facility Assistant Manager - Devonport
*       Carve out a career in a specialist industry
*       Simulator technology is the future
*       Become an SME for navigation simulation operation

What you will do
The Bridge Simulator Facility Assistant Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Royal New Zealand Navy Bridge Simulator Facility is operated to meet the needs of stakeholders.

Within this role you will manage two military operators who run the simulator on a daily basis. While overseeing and operating the system you will carry out basic fault finding, problem solve and manage the expectations of your customers, primarily the RNZN Navigation Training Group (NTG). You will also be responsible for database creation/maintenance and to deputise for the Bridge Simulator Facility Manager as required.

What we need
We are seeking a person with a simulation background who is technically proficient and familiar with information technology (I.T.). By being proactive and conducting regular walk arounds you will identify basic faults, conduct testing where appropriate and, by having an understanding of networks, flesh out potential problems. Combined with this skill set you are proficient in Microsoft Office.

Being a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills, you can adapt your communication style to suit your audience. These skills are key as you become an SME of simulation operation - facilitating training, coaching and leading your team or when providing briefs - you are able to confidently share your knowledge and pass on your expertise.

Exceptional planning and organising will enable you to manage a busy booking system. The facility is in high demand and it is up to you to ensure that bookings are de-conflicted, while meeting the needs of both internal and external stakeholders. You are a great relationship builder who understands the value of excellent customer service and you have a pragmatic approach to problem solving.

You will have experience in leading small teams with a focus on personal and professional development. The team you will be joining are dynamic, professional and set high expectations for themselves.

We are ideally looking for a person with a simulation or maritime/navy background as you understand navigation and basic maritime operations.

Being literate in specific simulation software, such as K-Sim Polaris (Kongsberg), electronic charting (ECDIS) and MS DOS would be a definite advantage.

Who we are
The Fleet Personnel and Training Organisation (FPTO) is responsible for managing the careers of all uniformed members of the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) and the delivery of induction, leadership, and environment-specific professional training to naval personnel, and in some instances, other members of the NZDF
