Aroturuki Tamariki, the Independent Children's Monitor, checks that organisations working with tamariki (children), rangatahi (young people) and whānau known to Oranga Tamariki are meeting their needs, delivering services effectively, and improving outcomes. We monitor compliance with the Oranga Tamariki Act and associated regulations and look at how the wider system is supporting the rights, interests and well-being of tamariki and rangatahi.
Our reporting aims to drive continuous improvement across the oranga tamariki system so tamariki and rangatahi can thrive with their whānau.
This Senior Financial Advisor role is an exciting opportunity to stand up the finance function within Aroturuki Tamariki as it transitions to an Independent Crown Entity.
Your first job will be to work with an experienced project manager to set up and implement systems and processes that support robust financial decisions and ensure that our financial management processes, procedures and reporting comply with legislative requirements and best practice. You will also develop our finance policies and provide advice on additional resources required to manage accounts payable and payroll functions.
The Senior Financial Advisor will be responsible for the provision of accurate, high quality, multi-year financial advice and reporting. The role is part of the Corporate, Strategy and Insights team and will work closely with the senior leadership team to provide sound financial advice and assurance to the board.
Our preferred candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Excellent relationship management skills.
- Proven experience in finance business partnering, organisational reporting and stakeholder management.
- Excellent working knowledge of relevant internal and external standards, principles, policies, statutes, regulations and NZ Public Sector financial management processes and best practices, including familiarity with obligations under the Public Finance and Crown Entities Acts.
- Advanced skills in financial analysis, tools and systems including Xero.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- High standards of professionalism and ability to collaborate and contribute at senior leadership level.
- A strong team player with the ability to operate to deadlines, and plan work ahead.

This role is approximately 0.5 FTE, to be negotiated. The salary range for this role is $120,870 - $150,416 (FTE) pro rata.
