Aroturuki Tamariki, the Independent Children's Monitor, checks that organisations working with tamariki (children), rangatahi (young people) and whānau known to Oranga Tamariki are meeting their needs, delivering services effectively, and improving outcomes. We monitor compliance with the Oranga Tamariki Act and associated regulations and look at how the wider system is supporting the rights, interests and well-being of tamariki and rangatahi.
Our reporting aims to drive continuous improvement across the oranga tamariki system so tamariki and rangatahi can thrive with their whānau.
The Principal Advisor Governance will have an exciting opportunity to stand up the governance support function within Aroturuki Tamariki as it transitions to an Independent Crown Entity governed by a small board.
Your first job will be to create the systems and processes needed to support robust governance decisions and meet legislative requirements and best practice. You will also develop our governance resources and support the integrity and continuous improvement of governance operations.
The Principal Advisor Governance will ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Board. The role is part of the Corporate, Strategy and Insights team and will work closely with our senior leaders to provide clear, practical advice to the organisation to help us work well with our new board and ensure high quality engagement.
Our preferred candidate will be able to demonstrate:
- Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to contribute to and collaborate with senior leaders.
- Proven experience in supporting effective operation of a board.
- Excellent working knowledge of board and organisational obligations under the Crown Entities, Public Service and Public Finance Acts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills and ability to articulate complex messages clearly and concisely.
- Ability to operate to deadlines, and plan work ahead.
Where capacity allows there may be opportunity to contribute to the wider team deliverables, including research and reports.

This role will be 25-32 hours per week, to be negotiated. The salary range is $120,870 – 150,416 (FTE) pro rata.
