Job Description

At New Zealand Customs we are always looking to use information to make our border more secure but easier to traverse for legitimate traders and travellers. That is why we have SmartGates in airports and provide a single portal to allow trade to happen more easily. We are also doing a whole lot more to help protect and promote New Zealand. This depends upon getting the right data to the right place at the right time. This puts Integrated Services at the heart of everything that happens here at New Zealand Customs.


We are looking for an Intermediate Developer who has a keen interested in pursuing a career in Software Development. They should have experience of software development, (preferably using Java), or be able to display the aptitude to learn new software languages.


Your responsibilities in this role will include:

    • Work closely with the rest of the team in the design and development of applications.


    • Have significant contributions into the development and maintenance of the applications.


    • Documentation of relevant systems, procedures and processes.


    • Manage own deadlines


    • Active participation in the Agile development of enhanced applications.

To be considered for this role you will have:

    • Experience of designing and developing applications using a High Level Language preferably Java.


    • The proven ability to work well both individually and as part of a team.


    • Excellent problem solving skills.


    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


    • Knowledge of SDLC using Agile development techniques.

Applicants must hold a New Zealand Permanent Resident visa or be a New Zealand Citizen and be able to obtain and retain security clearance at Confidential level.


The successful applicant will be required to undergo and pass a drug test.
