Job Description

What you will do

The primary role of the Aerospace Physiologist is to support the Aviation Medicine Unit (AMU) with the development and delivery of Aviation Medicine and Physiology training as well as with R&D of topics related to operational flying.

What we need

We are seeking a qualified physiologist with research and publication experience. As an engaging instructor, you will be a good and confident orator with prior classroom training experience, happy to facilitate workshops for a wide range of people.

This is a middle management position with direct reports, in a positive, supportive and blame free environment. You will be joining a small, enthusiastic and dedicated team of professionals who work with a high level of initiative and self-motivation which fits nicely with your own working style.

Becoming an integral part of the AMU team will require you to maintain an appropriate level of knowledge in current R&D and relevant applied physiology, Aviation Physiology, Anthropometry, NVD (Night Vision Devices), Human Performance and Wellbeing, Fatigue and Environmental Stress. You are familiar with general office administration and have good computer skills with a comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office.

The ideal candidate will have had exposure to the aerospace industry. However, we acknowledge this is a niche speciality and will provide professional development together with opportunities to acquire further experience.

The Aviation Medicine Unit is responsible for the provision of Aviation Medicine (AvMed) expertise to the New Zealand Defence Force, its allies and other organizations as dictated by the Government, through Training, R&D and Policy in support of military air operations.

The minimum citizenship and residency criteria for security clearances to be granted by the NZ Defence Force are as follows: Higher level Security Clearance

  • most preferably a NZ citizen, who has resided in this country continuously for at least the last ten years, OR
  • is a citizen of, and/or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last ten years: either Australia, Canada, NZ, the United Kingdom (UK) or the United States of America (USA); and has a background history that is verifiable and can be assessed as appropriate by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) towards a recommendation of suitability for a security clearance at this level. 

If you do not meet these minimum criteria, we will not be able to accept your application.
