Job Description

The National Army Museum plays an important role in telling the story of, and protecting and caring for, New Zealand's unique military heritage and its contribution to society by:

  • Ensuring that sacrifice is never forgotten;

  • Connecting us with our whakapapa and our stories;

  • Helping us to understand our development as a nation, and our place in the world today.

This is your opportunity to utilise your previous experience and support the National Army Museum's internal and external exhibition programme and visitor experiences.

What you will do

As Exhibitions Technician your responsibilities will include preparing and installing all displays designed at the National Army Museum including new displays and travelling exhibitions.

You will also assist with the installation of exhibitions from other museums and galleries, provide practical support to educational and public programmes, as well as facilitate the refurbishment of existing displays.

What we need

We are seeking someone with practical experience and sound understanding of display construction ideally in a museum environment, a sound understanding of workshop tools and equipment, design and production experience across a range of fabrication methods, and an attention to detail are all essential to your success.

You will demonstrate sound judgement and initiative, have strong interpersonal and time management skills, be self-motivated, and have proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.

The Museum is very proud of its bi-cultural history, therefore familiarity with tikanga Māori within a Museum context would be advantageous.

Why Us

We can reward you with challenging opportunities, professional development opportunities, and the chance to enjoy the upcoming dynamic and exciting times ahead for the Museum.

The museum is situated in the beautiful Central Plateau in the Ruapehu region that boasts outstanding scenery and outdoor experiences year round, from skiing in winter, mountain biking, hiking and much more.
