Senior Advisor, Pay Equity and Employment Relations at Te Kawa Mataaho | Public Service Commission, Wellington - Wairarapa
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission leads the public sector to make a positive difference for New Zealand and New Zealanders.
Following the Government's reset of pay equity, a new position has been created for a Senior Advisor, Pay Equity and ER within the Employment Relations team at Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission (the Commission).
This new role will support the Commission to deliver its statutory pay equity function and to provide first class employment relations and pay equity advice to the government of the day.
The Team
Reporting to the Manager Workforce and Employment Relations, this role sits within the Commission's Workforce group. The Employment Relations team plays an important leadership role for the broader Public Service employment relations community, in ensuring consistent practices and aligned activities to support the sector. This is done through providing advice and guidance, as well as through building relationships across the wider ER community.
As this is a new role, this is an opportunity to make your mark with the support of the broader Employment Relations team.
The Role
As part of the Workforce and Employment Relations team, this position:
- Supports the delivery of great public sector employment relations and pay equity advice.
- Leads cross-agency engagement and advice on employment relations and pay equity matters in a manner that is responsive, collaborative and flexible.
- Supports performance of the Public Service Commissioner's statutory functions in relation to pay equity, including through the approval of pay equity bargaining strategies.
- Supports a consistent approach to pay equity through providing oversight and advice to the Commissioner and Ministers on the outcomes of pay equity claims in the public sector.
- Contributes to development of employment relations and pay equity capability within the team and across the system.
Skills and Experience
Experience in pay equity and/or broader employment relations is required in order to provide technically sound and practical advice - you may be someone with a pay equity background, who is wanting to gain ER experience. You'll also have experience of the government environment and the ability to navigate the complex issues to provide the best advice and solutions for Ministers. We are also seeking someone with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop relationships both within the Commission and externally, including understanding different stakeholders' motivations and the ability to influence and persuade.
