Job Description

What you will do

Our newly established Defence Cyber Security Centre (DCSC) defends and protects the Defence Information Environment against cyber security threats.

As the Cyber Security Engineering Team Lead you will play a critical role in equipping incident monitoring and response teams with the tools and solutions needed to operate in a time critical environment.

You will oversee the Cyber Security Engineering team to build, support and maintain solutions for the Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC) as well as take ownership of problem solving tasks that are particularly complex and require senior-level knowledge and expertise.

This will be a varied role in which you will:

•             Lead the team to advise on engineering solutions to problems identified during external audits, penetration tests and vulnerability assessments;
•             engage with internal stakeholders to understand toolset and solution requirements to enable the rapid detection of and response to Cyber Security incidents;
•             ensure CSOC tools and solutions are fit-for-purpose and enable the effective protection of the Defence Information Environment;
•             act as a Subject Matter Expert for the wider NZDF to influence security design across the organisation;
•             manage staff through ongoing constructive feedback, mentoring and coaching and ensure  your team has the training and resources to perform affectively.

It's an exciting time to join the Cyber Security Operations Centre at NZDF as we invest and grow in this emerging field and this is a chance to play a part in building, supporting and maintaining CSOC toolsets and solutions that will enable the rapid detection and response to Cyber Security Incidents.

What we need

You will be someone who enjoys working in a fast paced, ever-changing environment and in addition you will have:

•             programming / shell scripting experience (BASH, PowerShell, etc.)
•             knowledge of cyber risks, the current threat landscape, and common attacks used to compromise systems
•             knowledge of the NZ Government requirements for security including the NZISM, Protective Security Requirements, and GCIO requirements
•             strong troubleshooting skills
•             excellent oral and communication skills
•             the ability to balance multiple priorities in a high demand environment.

Please note:
You must be able and willing to travel within New Zealand and overseas if required.
This position is required to be on call and may involve out of hours work.

Why Us

Let's just say we're not your typical corporate IT department:
