Job Description

What you will do

Our newly established Defence Cyber Security Centre (DCSC) defends and protects the Defence Information Environment against cyber security threats.

As the Cyber Security Operations Officer reporting to the Deputy Director Cyber Security you will make use of your deep understanding of how Cyber operations work to support the operational activities within the DCSC and act as second in command to the Deputy Director.

In this role you will maintain oversight across all functions within the DCSC to ensure each function is effectively and efficiently delivering.  As an integral member of the DCSC leadership team you will ensure the DCSC maintains and develops its capability, by liaising with other cyber security leaders to gauge the skills and technology required to operate in current and future environments.

In addition you will support the response to Cyber Security incidents by liaising internally and with external Cyber Security entities to coordinate the required resources and actions.

This is a communication and coordination focused role requiring you to keep wider NZDF and external Cyber Security entities informed via reporting and verbal briefings to maintain a high level of Cyber Security awareness and encourage a culture of continuous improvement in Cyber Security threat resilience.

What we need

We are keen to hear from you if you have a background in operations management, strategic planning or team management and at least 2-3 years' experience working in Cyber Security.

To be considered you will need:

•             A thorough understanding of the NZ Government requirements for security including the NZISM, PSR, and GCIO requirements.
•             Exceptional knowledge of cyber risks, the current threat landscape, and common attacks used to compromise systems.
•             A strategic outlook and the ability to analyse complex data, draw conclusions and deliver new insights.
•             Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate Cyber Security issues to non-technical staff and to senior and executive levels.
•             Exposure to a range of information security practices, principles, tools, technology, and trends.

Please note:
You must be able and willing to travel within New Zealand and overseas if required.
This position is required to be on call and may involve out of hours work.

Who we are

CIS Branch provides the core information and communication services that underpin New Zealand Defence operations.  We are entrusted to deliver and support the Defence technology that helps keep New Zealanders safe.

Every hour of every day, 365 days of the year, the New Zealand Defence Force contributes to the defence, security and well-being of Aotearoa / New Zealand.  As a modern, professional military, it is our goal to maintain well trained, equipped and disciplined armed forces that can react to crisis at short notice.

Why Us

Let's just say we're not your typical corporate IT department:

•             We provide support to more than 14,000 military and civilian Defence Force personnel who are dispersed on seven continents, often in geographically remote, hostile environments;
•             Our solutions are deployed to personal devices, vehicles, ships and planes;
•             We're here to deliver military outcomes, not just the technology behind them.

Check out the great benefits for you and your family when you join NZDF!
